The New York City/Long Island chapter of the New York State Network for Women Leaders in Higher Education is an informal network of women administrators, faculty and others associated with or supportive of higher education in the New York City and Long Island regions. The New York State Network for Women Leaders in Higher education was formed under the auspices of the Office of Women in Higher Education (OWHE) of the American Council of Education (ACE). The Office of Women in Higher Education offers national forums for women ready to advance into senior-level positions, prepares publications on women in higher education and nominates women for presidencies, vice-presidencies and other senior level positions. The New York State Network is part of a national network organized by all the states.
Mission and Goals of the New York City/Long Island chapter of the New York State Network
1. To develop and promote the advancement of women in higher education in New York City/Long Island;
2. To increase the number, visibility and influence of women in leadership roles in higher education;
3. To develop an agenda of policy issues affecting women in higher education;
4. To establish linkages among and between women and others serving their organizations, legislators, policy makers, search firms and other organizations as well as with the New York State Network;
5. To develop and promote the diversity of women in leadership positions of higher education;
6. To build a network whereby women are identified as potential leaders , mentored in their aspirations and supported as they achieve their goals;
7. To organize events in celebration of women and join roundtables or other existing networks for the advancement of women in higher education;
8. To keep women in the New York City/Long Island region informed regarding the agenda and/or programs of the New York State Network, OWHE and the ACE Network.
