NEW YORK STATE Chapter, AMERICAN COUNCIL ON EDUCATION WOMEN’S NETWORK (NYSACEWN)

The New York State chapter of the ACE Women’s Network announced this spring that Dr. Judith Tabron, Director of Faculty and Student Computing Services at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY, was elected and has stepped into the position of State Coordinator. Dr. Tabron is leading the NY State Executive Board composed of thirteen talented education leaders, and representing the state’s network to the ACE Women’s Network national Executive Council.

The move is part of the group’s planned succession process. Dr. Tabron has served as the state’s Information Officer since 2011, and was elected Associate State Coordinator in 2012. She has established the group’s website and social media presence, as well as the SaaS tools it uses for event advertising, registration, and payment. She has also served on all of its recent conference committees, including the collaborative multi-state conference with New Jersey, Delaware, and Connecticut in November 2014 and the popular Women of Color conference in March 2014. From 2012 to 2014, she also presented on current topics in information technology for higher education leaders at the chapter’s annual state conferences, and in 2015 on budget management.

“The state of New York has a large and thriving network of women who are serving in every type of leadership position in higher education,” said Dr. Tabron. “Institutions of higher learning are very diverse here, and so are the women who participate in the NYS ACE Women’s Network. Our members are the present and the future of higher education leadership. We want to highlight these women and their accomplishments, and the network gives us all colleagues and friends from every area throughout higher education. We are in a great position to keep growing and offering women unique professional development opportunities as well.”

As part of the same succession process, Dr. Kathleen Merget, Dean for Liberal Arts and Business Management at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, was elected Associate State Coordinator. She has led the active Hudson Valley region since 2012, has initiated several improvements for inter-network communication while serving on the executive board, and was conference coordinator for the very well received ACEWN State Conference in both 2014 and 2015 at the CIA.

Both will continue to be assisted by Dr. Patricia Burlaud, Dean of Operations, Assessment & Accreditations, Global Programs, at New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury, NY. Dr. Burlaud takes on the executive board position of Past State Coordinator. She revitalized the New York State chapter of ACE Women’s Network beginning in 2010. She put regional organizations in place, established new bylaws and working processes for the group, and reconstituted its executive board to its dynamic new form. Her presentations at the state conferences on managing in an increasingly global environment have been extremely popular. Dr. Burlaud was the first recipient of the state chapter’s Catalyst Leadership Award in 2014, and will continue to be a valuable leader for the network.
