2011 New York State Conference

Over 90 individuals attended the annual NYS Conference of the American Council on Education Office of Women in Higher Education, held on the Russell Sage Campus in Troy, New York.  The theme, “Weaving the Threads off Women’s Leadership in Higher Education” was well supported by sessions focused on topics such as “Journey to the Top of the Ladder: Essential Leadership Qualities for Women in Higher Education,” presented by Patricia Burlaud, ACE/OWHE NY State Coordinator.  After the welcome and opening remarks by Dr. Susan Scrimshaw, President, The Sage Colleges and Dr. Kimberly Cline, President, Mercy College, participants had an opportunity to network and meet members from the NYS regions.  The next day, the keynote speaker, Dr. Nancy Zimpher, Chancellor, SUNY, gave an inspiring and motivational speech on leadership, focusing on her personal leadership style.  This was followed by a Panel of Presidents: Dr Kimberley Cline, Mercy College, Sr. Margaret Carney, St. Bonaventure University, Dr. Margaret Drugovich, Hartwick College, Dr. Susan Scrimshaw, The Sage Colleges and Dr. Cynthia Zane, Hilbert College.  Each shared their perspectives on leadsership at their respective campuses and also provided personal insights on their backgrounds and appointments as college presidents. For the remainder of the day, there were concurrent sessions and closing remarks. The conference was a success and those who attended are looking forward to next year’s annual event.
